                   School Psychology Services

Role of the School Psychologist:

School psychologist facilitate the growth and development of children.  The school psychologists' background in education and psychology enable them to understand children in their environment.  They are able to work closely with home and school in determining and meeting the needs of children.

Population Served:  

The school psychologist serves any child in the regular or special education school setting experiencing difficulty with academics, social, behavioral, or emotional issues.

Services include:

The school psychologist utilizes the evaluation process in identifying children who experience learning difficulties. Assessment results provide information that enable the psychologist, the local Pupil Personnel Services Team, and the parent to establish the most appropriate educational program for a child. 

The schools psychologists in DeKalb County: 

Are part of the local Pupil Personnel Services Team. 
Are available as a consultant to teachers in their respective districts and/or programs being served. 
Provide counseling services when appropriate. 
Provide inservice education. 

Referral Procedure: 

A referral may be initiated by the local PPS team, teachers, parents, physicians, or any individuals involved with a child for whom school psychological services are sought.
