As applied to
educational settings, physical therapy is a health profession
concerned with the prevention of disability and rehabilitation of
individuals with handicapping conditions. The purpose of physical
therapy is to develop or restore neuromuscular and/or sensorimotor

develop and maintain maximal performance levels within the
individual's capabilities. Physical therapy services may be direct,
consisting of planning and implementing a therapeutic program, or
indirect, such as consultation, screening, evaluation, administrative
