                         Physical Therapy

Population Served:

  Any student in DeKalb County schools who has an identified need in the gross motor area. 

Overview Of Program:

As applied to educational settings, physical therapy is a health profession concerned with the prevention of disability and rehabilitation of individuals with handicapping conditions. The purpose of physical therapy is to develop or restore neuromuscular and/or sensorimotor function, control postural deviations to minimize disabilities, and to develop and maintain maximal performance levels within the individual's capabilities. Physical therapy services may be direct, consisting of planning and implementing a therapeutic program, or indirect, such as consultation, screening, evaluation, administrative functions, collaboration with other professionals such as an adaptive physical education specialist, and program planning and development. 

 

Referral Procedure:

1. Concerns are to be expressed at Pupil Personnel Services meeting. 
2. A Pupil Personnel Services referral form is completed and sent along with a PT/OT information form to DCSEA.
