  Occupational Therapy Services

Population Served:

Services are offered country-wide to any student enrolled in regular or special education classes who has an identified or suspected handicapping condition including physical, emotional, and psychiatric disabilities.

Overview Of Program:

Occupational therapy is a health profession concerned with the prevention of disability and attainment of maximum function and independence. Target areas are facilitation of neuromuscular and/or sensorimotor function for fine and gross motor development, provision of adaptations to supplement maximum physical function, sensory integration for learning disabled students, self help skills such as eating and dressing, and mental health. Services may be direct, consisting of planning and implementing such a therapeutic program or indirect such as consultation, screening, evaluation, administrative functions, collaboration with other professionals such as an adaptive physical education specialist and program planning and development. 

Referral Procedure:

Initial referral to local school Pupil Personnel Services Team; PPS team will send a follow up follow up referral to the school nurse.
1.  Concerns are to be expressed at a Pupil Personnel Services meeting. 
2.  A Pupil Personnel Services referral form will be completed and sent along with a      PT/OT information form to DCSEA.
